GLADESTRY recently celebrated its annual walk and duck race - money raised at this event goes towards the upkeep of the village hall.

The walk followed an old path into the hills near Cefn Hir and walkers were able to see the Mawnpools, formed many years ago when peat was extracted for fuel.

When the walkers returned, a crowd gathered on the bridge above the village stream as a thousand yellow plastic ducks were jettisoned into the water.

Children with sticks helped errant competitors out of the undergrowth and everyone followed the ducks home to the finishing line.

A welcome ploughman's meal was then enjoyed in the hall, after which the names of winners were announced.

First home was Tom Maddy's duck and he received £60 prize money. There were many other prizes but Matthew Perks' duck unfortunately paddled home in last place and Matthew is now the proud owner of the booby prize, a plastic watering can… in the shape of a duck.

Approximately £1000 was raised and the organisers would like to thank everyone for their support.
