CHILDREN at Ashperton Primary wowed their local community with a fabulous performance of the Lion King.

After a visit to London to watch the real thing at the Lyceum theatre in the West End the children and staff were inspired by the acting, singing, costumes, masks and staging and managed to direct a show not too dissimilar to the one they had watched.

One visitor to the school wrote "Incredible that a small village school can pull off something so spectacular" whilst another said "I'm buzzing after such a wonderful performance which the children clearly enjoyed performing in."

This is not the only success Ashperton has seen this summer term.

Five talented children reached the ESSA national swimming finals held in Sheffield.

After several races they managed a respectable 10th in the country in the 4x25m free style relay and 11th in the country for 4x25m medley.

Thanks must go to Ledbury swimming pool who allowed the children a lane to be coached in, by Mr Urbanski, prior to the competition.

Ashperton are also proud to be county tag rugby champions, Herefordshire Rounders Plate Finalists and Cluster Rounders Champions.

Alongside exciting visits to London, a week residential in Swansea, trips to the circus, Goodrich castle Bristol zoo and the waterways museum, the children have also be increasing their awareness of water safety at Worcester where they completed a 'swim safe course' and also qualified as 'mini medics' - learning CPR and basic first aid techniques.

This coupled, with a visit from the RNLI and the air ambulance will of course have enhanced the children's knowledge of keeping safe particularly over the summer months.

This term Ashperton welcomed their new reception children for their taster days. They can now look forward to the exciting curriculum and opportunities Ashperton has to offer.
