Oddsocks Productions celebrates its thirtieth anniversary this summer with a new adaptation of Shakespeare’s most popular of comedies: “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, which can be see at the Whitbourne Estate on Thursday, July 25.

“What better way to have a party than with this play?” asks Oddsocks’ creative producer Elli Mackenzie, “the play opens with the Duke of Athens announcing plans for his wedding reception and finishes with the wedding reception itself.” Add to that four confused yet passionate young lovers, a charm of fairies and a bunch of hilariously rubbish amateur actors and you have all you need to entertain everyone from the youngest to most senior members of the audience. “He was clever that Shakespeare guy, he knew how to tell a great story about personalities which are as relevant today as they were four hundred years ago” says Elli.

To be fair, Oddsocks’ always consider their performances to be parties, at which the actors are hosts and audiences; the guests. Whether picnicking alfresco or sitting in a theatre seat with friends and family, Oddsocks’ unique combination of Shakespeare’s text, popular music and physical comedy makes for an unforgettable, up-beat two hours of laugh a minute Shakespeare performed by seriously skilled actor musicians.

The Shakespeare performance will be taking place on Thursday, 25th July at 7.30pm whatever the weather and guests are encouraged to bring their own seats for a relaxed and laid-back atmosphere. Delicious barbecue fare prepared by the Green Cow Kitchen chefs will be available to purchase from 6pm, alongside a bar offering a range of options, all to be enjoyed whilst watching the show.
