CHARLES Court residents have been celebrating the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings with a 1940s themed summer fete.

Staff dressed up in an array of costumes including Land Army girls, air raid wardens and wore Union Jack and stars and stripes decorated hats.

The day was launched with The Dolloway Dancers dancing their 1940s repertoire followed by a barbecue including beef brisket and pulled pork.

Lavish puddings were created by head chef Adam Tinton with strawberries donated by Jude Norcott of S&A Produce.

The weather was perfect and Charles Court resident Ruby Thomas commented "seeing all the staff dressed up from the 1940s really takes you back, we've had a truly memorable day".
