There’s a big Celtic connection to the 10th anniversary of the Music on the Marr festival next weekend.

Top performers from north of the border will play over the three days of the Castle Carrock event. Tidelines headline this summer’s show and festival organiser Richard Johnson said: “They are the hottest Scottish property at the moment. We have increased the number of Gaelic performers this year, it makes sense as we’re only just over the border.”

Tidelines mix the tunes of the Highlands and islands with sounds from American songwriters and a strong Gaelic influence. Also featuring on this year’s line up are Blazin’ Fiddles well as the multi- award winning Assynt who were named ‘Up and Coming Artist of the Year 2018’ at the Scots Trad Music Awards.

A ‘supergroup’ of young musicians, they are former BBC Radio Scotland Young Musician of the Year finalists, Graham Mackenzie (fiddle) and David Shedden (pipes/whistles) alongside BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award winner Innes White (guitar/mandolin). They are backed up by fellow Scots RM Hubbert and Arthur Coates who are both rising stars on the Scottish trad music scene.

The festival also welcomes back the Baghdaddies and Zimbaremabwe Mbira Vibes. It will also stage a star-studded tribute to its patron Roy Bailey who died last year. There will also be circus skills, magic, puppet-making and other family-friendly things to do throughout the festival which starts on Thursday.
