EARLIER this year, Year 4 and Year 6 from St Mary's C of E Primary School had the opportunity to work with seven artist blacksmith students from Hereford College of Arts as part of the Ferrous Festival took place in Hereford in April.
The children drew natural objects and transferred them on to metal, they then worked with blacksmithing tools and hammers to create a relief image. The finished work will be part of a collaborative piece which will be on display in Hereford during the Festival - the individual work will then be returned to school to be displayed.
The art college students commented on the children's kindness and encouragement of the blacksmith's sketching during their introduction and was particularly impressed by their engagement and interaction, both with the artwork and the blacksmiths.
The school would like to extend their thanks to the artist blacksmith students from Hereford College of Arts for making the day so enjoyable for the children. They really enjoyed the Ferrous Festival and subsequently the children's work is now on display in the school entrance for all to enjoy.
