WHERE do your old spectacles go when you get a new prescription?

Perhaps they languish in the glovebox of the car, gathering dust at the back of a cupboard, or tucked behind the toothpaste in the bathroom cabinet 'just in case' they are ever needed.

But Herefordshire charities are offering the chance for your unloved and unworn old glasses to find a new home, where they could make a real difference.

Local volunteer group,

Herefordshire Community Recycling Raising Money For Local Charities

, has teamed up with Hereford Lions Club to collect second-hand specs for re-use overseas by people with sight impairments who cannot afford to buy a pair.

Group spokesperson Andrew Wood said: "This week I had the pleasure of handing over around 100 pairs of donated spectacles to Hereford Lions Club President, George Thomas.

"The Lions Club have for a long time collected and donated pairs of spectacles to children and adults in the third world, and in the long run this will hopefully help both adults and children to learn to read and get jobs.

"We'd like to thank everyone for their help in collecting them."

You can drop off your unwanted spectacles in a collection box at Specsavers in Maylord Street, at one of the schools participating in the schools' recycling project, or with Andrew Wood.
