A HEREFORD man will pilot an iconic World War Two fighter aircraft on a city fly-past this weekend.

The iconic Mk 19 Spitfire, used during the war for photographic reconnaissance, will be flown by Flight Lieutenant Andy Preece.

Entering service in 1944, the Griffon engined aircraft were able to fly higher than the air defence versions, making them much more successful for this purpose than previous models.

Arriving at around 1.30pm on June 29, Flight Lieutenant Preece will fly in from the north and make three passes over Hereford city.

Afterwards, he will be heading off to the National Armed Forces Day at Salisbury to join other aircraft from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight in a flypast there.
