AN ECOLOGY team have set themselves a target to identify more than 500 different species of plants, birds and insects this weekend.

RSK Biocensus are holding their annual BioBlitz as a way of thanking staff for their hard work as well as being an opportunity for training.

They want to record as many different species of plant, bird, reptile, mammal, invertebrate, fish etc as we can in 24 hours using every survey technique we can manage. RSK usually set a target of 500+ species.

Held at Moccas Park National Nature Reserve the event will run from noon on Friday (June 21) until the next day, but the event isn't open to the public.

They will be doing surveys on bats, dawn birds, small mammals, moths, freshwater insects such as dragonflies and reptiles.
