GIN from Kington has scooped gold in an international spirits competition.

Herefordshire fruit farmers turned distillers Charles Turner and Richard Williams of Penrhos Spirits won gold in the Gin category at the International SIP awards held in Irvine, California last week.

A unique competition for spirit brands to gain exposure, feedback and recognition from unbiased consumers, SIP Awards entrants are judged through blind tastings.

Charles and Richard's newly launched Penrhos London Dry Gin was amongst 977 different brands from across the globe, competing for six award tiers across 93 different categories.

Launched late in 2018, Penrhos Gin is a celebration of the farming and fruit growing heritage of the two families, who have both been farming at Penrhos near Kington for generations.

Each of their recipes focuses on sourcing from their own farms, allowing a true flavour of Herefordshire's countryside to shine through.

The Herefordshire produced gin is quickly gaining national distribution, and will be adding to its portfolio with more flavours launching later this year.

Sales director Kate Turner said: "We are thrilled to have won gold in such a highly competed category and feel we have done Herefordshire and the UK proud.

"It is great to have won such a prestigious award so early on in our journey, and we are excited for what is to come!"
