A HEREFORD preacher has celebrated 50 years of ministry as a reader with cake and Prosecco at a service on Sunday.
The lengthy career of Malcolm Robertson, reader across the West Hereford Team of churches, was marked by a joyful service of choral evensong at St Nicholas' Church, Hereford.
Mr Robertson led the office and chose the pieces of music which were special for personal reasons, 'lustrously sung' by a combined choir from St. Nicholas and Holy Trinity churches
He said: "There were quite a lot of refreshments, but I sang the office, I didn't take the service. I led evensong from the opening sentence through to the third collect.
"I retired five years ago, we wanted a cathedral city and an A&E because I had a serious heart attack which led to my retirement.
"The decision to move here was the best decision of our marriage, it's a beautiful city and the people are welcoming and inviting."
