After an absence of four years, popular acoustic duo Pharis and Jason Romero are returning to the UK and will be be performing in the Assembly Rooms, Presteigne on Saturday, May 18 at 8pm. Their last concert in Mid Wales was one of the most successful ever and sold out quickly. The Romeros share a common love of many things, not least the wilderness log cabin they share in the northern woods of British Columbia. Surrounded by nature, they spend their days building some of the finest musical instruments in North America - and singing and playing the music they adore.

On their debut release as a duo, they created the kind of impact that can only be made by two people who live so closely together that they are utterly “at one”. The songs are beautiful vibrant duets that have either been lovingly sourced from old recordings or written by Pharis played on handmade banjos and lovely old acoustic guitars. They’ve now released six records and toured across North America and the UK. They’ve won a JUNO Award, been featured on NPR Music, CBC, BBC and Folk Alley and have performed on A Prairie Home Companion and CBC’s The Vinyl Cafe. They are passionate teachers and believers in many things folk, and their heartbreakingly harmonic live show is an ever-evolving and never-ending quest for good songs and beautiful sounds.

Sweet Old Religion, the newest release from the duo, is an all-original record that sounds like over a decade of playing and listening together. It was nominated for three Canadian Folk Music 2018 Awards.

Doors open at 7.30pm. Advance booking is advisable due to limited seating. To book, please call 01544 350407 or 01982 551116.
