HEREFORDSHIRE'S Tyrrells crisps will be appearing on our screens on Friday, as a documentary series visits the company's Leominster base.

The crisp company is the star of the fourth and final episode of British Made with John Prescott, which will be shown on Channel 5 at 8pm on May 10.

Whilst filming the series, the former Deputy Prime Minster has visited some of the factories that make the UK’s favourite food and drinks, whilst and trying to discover the secret of the business’ success.

During his trip to Tyrrells Court Farm, Lord Prescott learned about the journey the locally sourced potatoes make from the field to store, and how Tyrrells create their hand-cooked crisps.

Alongside Potato Procurement Manager, Patrick Lewis, he observed the hand grading of the crop according to their size, as well as seeing the frying and flavouring processes, escorted around the site by Production Manager, Shirley Robinson.

Today, Tyrrells’ 30,000 square foot factory at Stretford Bridge, Leominster, sources around 600 tons of potatoes a week, turning them into around 500 thousand packets of hand cooked crisps.

Now 80, Lord Prescott decided to film the documentary series because, he said, "I was interested in how small firms became big and employed whole villages."

Sarah Lawson, Marketing Manager at Tyrrells comments; “It was fantastic to showcase our authentic provenance and quality credentials to Lord Prescott.

"He was very knowledgeable about the British food and drink manufacturing sector and also an avid crisp fan!

"We look forward to the world having an insight into what makes our crisps so absurdly good on Friday night.”
