A 'WONDERFUL' young baritone singer has won the £1,000 Hereford Police Choir Bursary first prize.

Johannes Moore, who is in his second year at the Royal Academy of Music in London, won the award in this year's final where he competed against eight others.

The second prize of £500 went to singer Rose Johnson, with percussionist Aaron Jones, and pianist Conor Burton, each receiving £250 for joint third.

Johannes will be performing with the Police Choir and the Cwmbach Male Voice Choir at the annual concert on July 13 at the Shirehall, Hereford.

The bursary was established to mark the choir’s 50th anniversary in 2007.

The idea was formulated by former Chief Constable Paul West and the choir’s musical director, Alison Houlbrooke.

It is open to young musicians aged 14 to 22 who are resident in Herefordshire and Worcestershire.

It is sponsored by the Beckett Bulmer Fund, Clive and Sylvia Richards and the Patron of this event, Jesse Norman MP.

The adjudicators, led by Alison Houlbrooke, said the standard of the final was 'exceptionally high.'
