HAVE you got your litter picker at the ready for next week's Big Warrington Clean-Up?

Whether you choose to tidy up a park or community area on our Big Clean-Up day on May 3 or any other day this week, we've got some top tips for you.

And if you're getting involved, we would love to see pictures of your litter pick.

You can send them in via our Big Clean-Up form by clicking here

Or please email them to newsdesk@guardiangrp.co.uk along with the area you've been tidying up.

Check our live blog throughout the Big Clean-Up day on May 3 for details on where groups are gathering to litter pick.

How to get involved with our Big Clean-Up

We decided enough was enough after reporting on a dead seal pup spotted in Latchford locks surrounded by litter and plastic.

The heartbreaking image was shared by hundreds of readers and resulted in our litter campaign.

To get involved all you need is a litter picker, some gloves and plenty of binbags.

  • You can find litter pickers in a number of shops in the town centre for as little as £1.
  • Don't forget to also wear strong waterproof gloves and shoes during your litter pick
  • Wear clothing appropriate for the weather that day and avoid litter picking near roads
  • More experienced litter pickers may also have bin bag 'holders'
  • Avoid sharp objects and be aware of drug paraphernalia (especially needles) as well as human detritus (urine in bottles and even excrement) or any other substances if you're unsure what it is.

This should probably go without saying but once you have finished, don't leave binbags of rubbish at the roadside.

Please dispose of any rubbish you collect properly.

Any participants in Warrington's Big Clean-Up do so at their own risk.
