The May fairs are returning to Hereford and Leominster, promising rides, entertainment, food stalls and ancient customs... and traffic disruption!

The Hereford May Fair is almost 900 years old, while the Leominster Fair can be traced back to the 17th century, and both events attract thousands of residents and visitors every year.

The Hereford Fair takes place on the first Tuesday to Thursday following the May Day bank holiday. That means that this year is will be:

  • Tuesday, May 7, from 3.45pm (opening ceremony on Cathedral Close from 3.30pm)
  • Wednesday, May 8, from noon
  • Thursday,  May 9, noon​

Dean Deakin, chairman of the South Wales and Northern Ireland dection of the Showman’s Guild, said they would be arriving in Hereford on Bank Holiday Monday,  May 6, and will start setting up from 6pm. 

“Showmen from all over the UK will provide excitement, fun and laughter.

“From rides to stalls we have it all, including some new attractions for 2019!”
The Leominster May Fair takes place on the Thursday to the Saturday before the May Day bank holiday. Details are:

  • Thursday, May 2, from 4pm
  • Friday, May 3, from noon
  • Saturday, May 4, from noon

There will be a series of road closures to enable the fairs to be held safely, and Herefordshire council says it would like to thank drivers in advance for their patience and consideration during the period of the fair.
