REVIVE community shop and cafe, based at Christian Life Centre in Edgar Street, is celebrating its first year of successful trading.
The social enterprise project was started by Lynn Pitcher who had the vision of helping people in her own backyard, after being inspired by a similar project during her time living in New Zealand.
Since opening, Revive has been able to assist a number of people and families in the local community, who needed a helping hand.
It has contributed towards washing machines for two families, curtains, grocery vouchers and donated money to Vennture, a local charity helping needy people.
The cafe also works to break down social isolation. 'We have visitors who attend every day, who have formed new friendships' said Lynn.
'People who have left online reviews have commented on the relaxed and friendly atmosphere. There is also a children's play cafe where young tots can play safely'.
Up to 20 volunteers, help in the cafe and shop over the course of the week. The shop stocks over 2,000 donated items, including good quality clothing, toys, books, puzzles, DVDs and CDs, all at low prices.
The shop and cafe are open Monday - Thursday from 10am - 3pm and the first Saturday of every month, with free parking for Revive customers.
To celebrate the first anniversary of Revive there will be free cake and drinks on Saturday, May 4.
