OLD Radnor WI held their last meeting on April 2 and president Libby Hughes welcomed the speaker for the evening Rachel Palmer from Keep Wales Tidy.

Rachel originated from Balcombe in Sussex near to Balcombe Place, the home of Lord and Lady Denman.

Rachel's Mother had worked with Lady Denman organising the management and recruitment of girls for the Women's Land Army.

Rachel gave us a very interesting insight into their work before moving on to her main topic for the evening; The Long Forest Project.

Funded by the Heritage Lottery this is an all Wales project by Keep Wales Tidy and the Woodland Trust to raise awareness of the importance of hedges and to encourage community involvement in maintaining hedgerows.

The project also works with schools, farmers and landowners to carry out practical conservation projects.

Rachel gave an interesting and informative talk that was enjoyed by all.

The vote of thanks was given by Sylvia and Rachel then judged the competition, an Easter Bonnet which was won by Libby with Ros and Elsie a close second and third.

Old Radnor WI will be running the Community Shop in Kington from April 24 - May 1. A great place to find a bargain!

The next meeting of Old Radnor WI, held on May 10, is a visit to RHS Malvern Spring Festival.
