A newborn baby has been found dead at a house in Herefordshire.

The body was found at a property in Ross-on-Wye after officers were called to reports of concerns for its welfare, West Mercia Police said.

A 15-year-old girl from the town was arrested on suspicion of murder and has been released on police bail.

The force said the baby's next of kin and the coroner have been informed and investigations are continuing.

Detectives say they are still trying to work out how a baby died after its body was found last month.

The police commander for Herefordshire, Superintendent Sue Thomas, said: "Police were called at around 8.40am on Sunday, March 24 to reports of a concern for welfare for a newborn baby at a property in Ross-on-Wye.

"On attendance, the body of a baby was discovered."

Police report that the death is being treated as suspicious and investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the baby’s death.

The 15-year-old girl has been released on police bail while investigations are ongoing.
