A POPULAR border pub is up for sale.
Locals have greeted with dismay the news that family-run Royal Oak in Presteigne is set to change hands.
In a post on their Facebook page, Claire, Dale and Carrie Gorman said: "This may come as a bit of a surprise, but we wanted to let all of our valued customers, new and old, know that we have made the difficult decision to put the pub on the market.
"We've had an amazing six years here, and have enjoyed every minute of it. But we feel it's the right time for us to move on.
"We have hopefully supplied a good local with good food and beer over the years, and until sold we can assure you that our standards will not drop.
"We hope everybody will understand our decision, and again would like to thank everybody for your support over the years."
Customer Glenys Roberts posted on Facebook: "Good luck to you all. Sorry you are going, but you have made a lot of people very happy. You will be a hard act to follow."
The 18th-century pub, in the town's High Street, specialises in grill nights. The freehold is being advertised at £315,000 by Sydney Phillips.
