A MUSICAL memory-jogging experience proved a great hit with dementia sufferers in Halesowen.

The Rotary Club of Halesowen and Rowley Regis held the special 'Soundtrack' evening in conjunction with the Playlist For Life charity at the Garden Room at Lapal House.

The charity uses music to connect with deeply embedded memories of dementia sufferers.

Music can be tailored directly to the needs of an individual living with dementia, allowing them to reconnect with loved ones.

Once familiar with the concept, invited parties were asked to give accounts of personal memories.

Workshops followed, enabling those present to use a prompt script to create their own playlists from tunes that were triggered by the prompts.

Sue Hannaford, secretary of the Rotary Club, said the evening had been a great success.

She said: "Those who arrived sceptical went away converted and those who already believed in the power of music found a way to use it more effectively.

"This is just a beginning, a first step on the journey that hopes to put in place what is necessary to have Halesowen registered as a dementia friendly community."

A number of special guests, including Deputy Mayor Hilary Bills and Halesowen BID (Business Improvement District) manager Vicky Rogers also attended the event.
