THIS stunning 'dream home' in the Herefordshire countryside has been shortlisted for a top architecture award.

Owners Steph and Alex Wilson and children Lydia and Ollie went through heartache and living in a caravan for three years as they tried to make their rural home dream become reality.

The Barn House at Risbury, near Leominster, is one of 15 buildings in the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) West Midlands awards.

It hit the headlines when it was covered by the Grand Designs TV programme last year.

It is built on the site of Stephanie’s grandparents’ farm and is the culmination of her 20-year quest to return to live in a place she’s loved since her childhood.

The couple bought the land in 2015 but when Alex was suddenly made redundant the project was in major financial trouble.

They sold their bungalow and moved into a caravan as they reviewed their entire strategy.

Then Stephanie approached an old school friend, Jessica Barker, an architect with the Stolon Studio, who designed the new home and became project managers.

Stolon's description says: "This modular-style, black barn home distinctly fits into the Herefordshire countryside, hunkered down within a cutting to reduce its visual impact and integrate with the local area."

Stephanie said: ""It's the most amazing house we could have ever imagined we would live in.

"They designed an amazing and striking exterior, together with an interior that complimented the exterior - flowing from inside to out, giving continuity to the whole house design."

Winners will be announced at an awards evening on May 17.

All shortlisted buildings will be assessed by a regional jury with the winning buildings announced at the RIBA West Midlands Awards evening and reception on Friday 17 May at The Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.
