Spring has sprung early for one Herefordshire business after reaping triple recognition for its efforts towards protecting the natural world.

Discover Parks, who run three holiday home sites in the North of the county, are blossoming with pride after receiving a trio of major environmental accolades.

Pearl Lake Country Park at Shobdon and Arrow Bank Country Park at Eardisland have both been presented with top level Gold Awards while Rockbridge Residential and Country Park at Presteigne received a Silver Bellamy Award.

Managing Director Glenn Jones says it’s a credit to his team of ground staff who work tirelessly to keep the parks as natural as possible.

“We have a dedicated band of workers who are all keen to accommodate our holiday makers wishes to see wildlife and flowers in abundance. We work closely with local producers rather than have our own ‘on park’ shops and that too helps sustainability in the area which is important - all things that are taken into consideration by the David Bellamy wildlife assessors who visit us.”

Hundreds of native trees and bird boxes have been planted and installed over the years to compliment the existing ancient woodland on the parks, with wild flower meadows and additional water features created so as to attract a wider variety of species.

Careful planning and attention to detail has also been implemented across all three parks resulting in minimal lighting and first class traffic calming measures. This was particularly noted at Rockbridge Residential and Country Park where low levels of light pollution make it one of the best places for star gazing.

Arrow Bank Country Park was recognised for its wildflower habitat and granted the Bellamy Honey Bee Friendly award. “It was one of the many highlights mentioned by the judges’,said Glenn, “they were welcomed by the sounds of bees humming in our marvellous meadow”.

Bellamy Assessors also took great interest in the recycled plastic decking used for the holiday homes which is produced ‘in house’ adjacent to the Pearl Lake park, described as another great sustainable achievement by the Discover Parks team.
