AT the February meeting of the Holmer WI, Martyn Davis talked about butterfly conservation with a particular reference to Herefordshire.

Martyn has been a local resident for nearly 50 years, having taught at Whitecross School for 35 of those years.

Members were entertained and informed by a slide presentation which showed a huge variety of butterflies.

They cleverly use their colour and shape to camouflage themselves in their habitats to keep safe, as well as spreading their wings and exhibiting their amazing beauty in other circumstances.

Some of the best places to observe butterflies in Herefordshire include Haugh Woods, Ewyas Harold and parts of the Malvern Hills.

Joyce Crosier gave a vote of thanks which was followed by a hearty round of applause.

Holmer WI next meets on Wednesday, March 6 at 7.30pm at St Mary's Church, Grandstand Road.

Fiona Hanks will tell members about the Peace and Hope Trust.

Visitors and potential members will be made most welcome.
