A SALAD producer from Herefordshire has won one of only eight national awards given out by a food magazine.

Wye Valley Salads from Ross-on-Wye took the From the Earth Primary Category accolade at the delicious Magazine Produce Awards 2018.

They will now appear in a feature on the winners in this month’s edition of the glossy food magazine.

They also won both the silver and bronze awards for their edible flowers and Barba di Frate (an Italian vegetable).

Started eight years ago as Veggies Galore, the company supply local pubs, chefs and businesses with their chemical free products.

Amanda Stradling runs the business with chief vegetable taster Wombat, the family Jack Russell.

She said: “We are proud to have been nominated and to have won the prestigious national delicious magazine's annual From the Earth producer award for our chef's garden salad, furthermore a highly commended accolade for our edible flowers.

"Our salads and edible flowers are grown chemically free, picked to order and supplied locally to chefs and restaurants in and around the Wye Valley.

"We are also especially delighted to have received an award for our UK grown Barba di Frate available online and delivered nationwide from April through till October. We believe Barba di Frate has the potential to be the new vegetable."
