ONE of the most familiar faces from Herefordshire's agricultural industry died yesterday.

Tributes have been paid to Gwyn Williams who was particularly well known in the south of the county.

On its Facebook page, the auctioneers, RG RB Williams, said Mr Williams had put up a "long and brave" fight but died on Monday.

"Ross Market was his life and it wouldn't be in existence without his sterling efforts," the company said.

Jenny Layton Mills was among those to pay tribute to Mr Williams.

"A true gentleman who helped me form my career," she wrote.

"I will never forget the time he spent with me and so many other students.

"Thoughts are with Richard and the family."

Meanwhile, Janet Schooling wrote: "I have the highest regards for this man, I attended Ross for years, never once did he fail to ask if I had had a good day.

"He was amazing at introducing me to his clients, he made me feel part of Ross Market.

"Very very sad day to lose a man of his stature, grace he had a quality many of us wish we could have."
