A YOUNG Clay Pigeon Shooting enthusiast has achieved national recognition in his first major competition.

Georgie Watkins, from Bromsberrow Heath near Ledbury, represented the Hereford and Worcester Clay Pigeon Shooting Association alongside teammate Brandon Smith at an event held at the Nottingham and District Gun Club.

The pair were crowned runners-up in the junior category at the October Inter-County English Shooting Skeet Championships, with Georgie achieving an impressive individual score of 92/100.

Individually, Georgie was placed fourth nationally in the under 18s category.

Georgie, a 14-year-old pupil at Bredon School, discovered his passion for clay pigeon shooting three years ago, when he was introduced to the sport through his school’s sport and outdoor curriculum.

Since then he has dedicated his weekends and holidays to improving his shot and competing, with his last success being at the Oxford Gun Company Junior Academy Festival of Shooting in September, a competition in which he achieved first place.
