On Saturday, December 8 the Music in New Radnor concert series will present the lower voices of the Lay Clerks of Brecon Cathedral Choir for their Christmas concert.

In a programme subtitled ‘bringing the Church in the Hall’, the choir will present a mix of old and new music, from Byrd, Bassano and Tallis to Vaughan Williams and contemporary arrangements by Mark Duthie and Philip Colls. Mark Duthie is a former Director of Music at Brecon Cathedral, and left the choir with a cornucopia of arrangements, solemn and silly, which they will perform in the second, secular half of the concert.

"We are looking forward to hosting the Brecon Lay Clerks at MiNR," said Mary Tolhurst for MiNR. "As well as heartwarming, beautiful sacred Christmas music the performers will let their hair down in the second half with secular fare, including some of their favourite arrangements by Mark Duthie, whose ‘Song of the Nuns’ was written specially for the choir. This concert will set us up for Christmas in the true spirit of the season." The choir’s guest soprano is Soprano Grace Curtis, a first year MA student on the Opera Course at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.

Doors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start. Tickets available from 01544 350268, or on the door.
