A MAN with mental health difficulties who killed his mum has been ordered to be treated in hospital.
Jason Nellist, 41, was sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court yesterday.
Judge Simon Drew QC gave him a hospital order under section 37 of the mental health act.
He also added a section 41 restriction order. Judges can add this if they feel a defendant is a risk to the public.
A jury found that Nellist killed his mum on January 9 this year at Highmore Street in Hereford.
A trial was held in his absence as he was unfit to plea and stand trial.
The court heard that Nellist made a "plan" to kill his mum, 59-year-old Julie Clark, and his pet cat, Gizmo.
The jury was told that Nellist had paranoid psychosis and wanted to take his mum to a "happy place."
On January 9 he killed his pet cat in the morning before going to his mum's house in Westfields in the afternoon.
He stabbed her and she died from multiple stab wounds.
Nellist then intended to take his own life and walked in front of a van on Roman Road in Hereford at around 6pm. He was treated in hospital for his injuries.
