FOWNHOPE schoolchildren have got back to nature with two day of activities outside the classroom.

Children at St Mary’s Primary School swapped the classroom for the great outdoors to learn about the natural world.

Led by Richard Fishbourne of Bugs and Beasties, the children enjoyed two days of activities including worm charming, mud painting, making wreaths and creating collages in the style of environmental artist Andy Goldsworthy.

Parents, governors and children also did their bit for the environment by gardening and tidying up the school’s grounds, which were transformed in 2017 into an area dedicated to imaginative play and learning, thanks to the fundraising efforts of the PTA and volunteers.

Headteacher Tim Milne said: “We want to give the children exciting opportunities to develop their knowledge of the world and try new things to find out what they’re good at.”
