ANCIENT trees and the species that rely on them will be celebrated at a community art event at Moccas Park.

Back From The Brink, a National Lottery funded project, helps conservation organisations work to protect England's most threatened species.

The event on December 2 will celebrate the more than 2,000 species in the park that rely on the trees.

Visitors are encouraged to make their own banners representing the species that are endangered by the loss of habitat.

Joanna Callaghan, an artist who has been commissioned to lead the project, said: "I'm inviting people to come together in a walk of hope and support around Moccas Deer Park. The walk will be a procession with the handcrafted banners and will end with a simple ceremony. It will be a fun, creative and moving family event, in a beautiful place.”

Joanna will also be leading a banner making session on November 24.

Joanna added: "“Even if you cannot make the actual walk on the Sunday you can make a banner in support of the event and post a photo of it on our Facebook page – NatureBftB, or on Twitter and Instagram with the #bannersforancients. That way we can get banners of support for ancient trees from all around the world!”

Banners from the walk will be displayed at Hereford Museum and Art Gallery from December 4.
