THE first stage of Hereford's Christmas lights switch-on took place tonight.
Lights at the Old Market went on at 5.30pm after shoppers were treated to an afternoon of free entertainment, including live music.
Waitrose did tastings outside the shop, giving people a chance to sample drinks from Pixley Berries, Purity Ales, Westons Cider and White Heron British Cassis.
The lights at High Town go on tomorrow night and are, as usual, expected to attract big crowds.
Live music and entertainment will start at 3pm before the lights are switched on at 5pm by girl band Liberty X.
