AN overturned caravan is finally being removed from a busy road by the council, after concerns were raised about the danger it posed to drivers.

The caravan appeared abandoned on a layby on the A438 just outside Clyro on the southbound side about five weeks ago.

In recent days it is believed high winds have tipped the caravan over on to its side, prompting safety concerns from drivers passing it.

Concerned driver James Cassidy, from Eardisley, said: "It needs to be removed before someone gets hurt, or causes damage to passing traffic."

He explained: "A local person had already contacted the council, and offered to tow it away and dispose it appropriately, but I heard the council said to leave, in case the owner returns to collect it, but it's clear that the caravan has been dumped."

James shared his concern that gusts from passing articulated lorries may tip the trailer back on to its wheels and put other drivers in danger.

The caravan may also attract youths who could get hurt, James claimed.

A spokesman from Powys Council said: "The council has received a report of a wrecked caravan that had been abandoned near Clyro. The wrecked caravan is due to be removed today."
