WESTFIELDS captain Craig Jones hopes that his last minute winner at Lye Town can be the catalyst for their fortunes turning around.

The midfielder left it until the 94th minute to strike home from 12 yards to earn Fields their ninth win of the season.

An end-to-end first half saw both goalkeepers make fine saves to leave the game level at the break.

That was until Keanu Cooper, who also netted the winner against Romulus last weekend, scored the opener with a clinical 52nd minute finish.

However, once again Westfields looked to have dropped two points when Lewis Worsley levelled from an acute angle, when Andy Bevan's side had appealed for offside.

Fields threw everything forward for a winning goal which Jones netted deep into injury time.

"We deserved the win to be honest and we needed it as we have dropped off a bit in recent weeks," said Jones.

"It was literally in the last minute of the game and it really looked to be heading for a draw. The ball dropped inside the box and a few passes resulted in my snap-shot which went in. You can't beat a last minute winner.

"We have let ourselves down in recent weeks and have been in winning positions and ended up losing or drawing games.

"Hopefully we can turn that around and put a run together as we need to try and keep up with Ilkeston."

Westfields host local rivals Stourport Swifts this weekend before travelling to Worcester City the following week.

Leaders Ilkeston sit four points above Jones' side with three games in hand but the captain says that there is still everything to play for at the half-way point.

"The thing we have found this year is that teams are beating each other. We have noticed that the lower teams have got better as in years gone by there have been four or five good teams.

"But this year the leading teams have lost to the lower sides and that will continue to happen.

"We aim to be in and around the promotion fight at Christmas, we are also in the Herefordshire County Challenge Cup, League Cup and FA Vase so everything is to play for."
