THE ARMISTICE centenary has encouraged people to get creative with their commemorations and the community in Winforton has proved no exception.

The Winforton Arts and Craft Group, which has been running for ten years, marked the centenary of the Armistice by creating over 500 knitted poppies, each by hand.

The handcrafted symbols of remembrance have been put on display around the village to act as a focal point for the village's commemoration of the upcoming Armistice centenary.

David Joyce said: "The enthusiasm for the project was outstanding and the box of individual poppies soon overflowed."

The group meets every week at the Community Hall at St Michaels and All Angels Church and new members are always welcome.
