A HAY-ON-WYE community group has stepped in to help the community access nearby banks after the closure of Barclays in the town.

Hay Dial-a-Ride is a community service which provides transport for people who do not have access to public or private transport.

Barclays was the last remaining bank in the town but closed earlier this year, leaving many people without access to a bank.

Now the team behind Hay Dial-a-Ride are running a 'bus bank' to transport people to visit banks in the local area.

The charity have received a Community Chest grant of £500 from the Brecon Rotary Club to run the service until the end of March 2019.

Lesley Moore, Chief Executive of Hay & District Dial-a-Ride, said: "We are very grateful to Brecon Rotary Club for their generous grant of £500. This has enabled us to provide a regular service to our members to visit local banks, which is very important to them as many of them don’t do internet banking. It’s also a great social opportunity, as some of our members are very isolated.”

Former President of Brecon Rotary Club, Owen Hughes, added: "It is wonderful to be able to support a local charity which does so much to connect people within our community to essential services.”
