Multi-instrumental duo Eira/Snow will be playing atmospheric music drawing on Scandinavian, Celtic and Middle Eastern influences at The Courtyard on Thursday, November 1.

Eira/Snow is a collaboration between Caractacus Downes and Lyndon Owen, who, having worked closely together in a variety of musical forms over the years, felt that their close understanding, improvising spirit and shared joy of playing demanded action. Eira/Snow was born out of bad weather, warm fires and a long relationship and the resulting trust and understanding between two very individual musicians.

Improvisation plays a key role in the band’s ethos and inspiration is taken from the fusion of jazz with a variety of folk and world elements, and the duo’s sound embodies a wide range of instruments giving an amazing range of timbres. Instruments include double bass, soprano, alto, tenor and baritone saxophones, Armenian douduk, Turkish mey and zurnah, Hungarian tarogato, Clarinet, and a range of percussion.

In recent years, Eira/Snow have played at Latitude and Brecon Festivals as well as at the Bishop’s Palace in Hereford and many churches along the Welsh Borders.

Eira/Snow will be in The Courtyard’s Studio Theatre on Thursday, November 1 at 7.45pm. To book, call the box office on 01432 340555 or visit courtyard.org.uk
