A QUARTER-PEAL of Doubles was rung at Clifford last Friday in memory of Fusilier William Herbert Dennis, who was killed at the Battle of Epehy 100 years previously.
Although Dennis was a Londoner (from Lewisham) his aunt always enjoys visiting the peaceful church and churchyard at Clifford and requested that memorial fringing take place there on the anniversary of his death.
Members of the Diocesan Guild of Bell Ringers were pleased to oblige.
The ringing lasted for 40 minutes and the band was: Nick Cooper-Tomkins and Martin Foster from Ewyas Harold, Alison Alcock the Tower Captain at Clifford, Colin Lewis of Glasbury (the conductor), Mark Pugh from Leominster and Ian Bass from Michaelchurch Escley.
