HEREFORD Historic Transport Society marked its 35th anniversary with a celebratory drive-out and afternoon tea in the elegant setting of Maesmawr Hall.

Sixty members and guests, in 22 classic cars drove through glorious Herefordshire countryside across the border into Wales and then along country lanes to the hotel at Caersws.

The half-timbered building provided the perfect back drop for photographs of the occasion and the line up of classic cars which ranged from a 1954 MG Magnet in British Racing Green to two Triumph Stags from 1973.

Many British marques were represented including Triumph, Wolseley, Morris, Austin, Hillman, Riley and Morgan.

In the function room the group enjoyed sandwiches, scones and cakes with tea or coffee.

There were many reminiscences about the good times enjoyed at club events and much laughter.

Hereford Historic Transport Society was founded in 1983 by a group of local classic car enthusiasts.

One of the founders, treasurer Phil Bullar, is still an active member and after the tea he was presented with a model of his classic Heinkel ‘bubble car’ as a thank you for all his hard work on behalf of the society.

The thriving club organises activities through out the year including drive-outs, shows and a club weekend away over the summer months with club nights, quizzes and other activities in the winter. Over the years the members have raised a lot of money for charities such as St Michael’s Hospice by displaying their cars at local shows.

Anyone interested in joining the club should contact Bernard Nash, membership secretary, on 01432 272243.
