A 24 HOUR sports challenge raised over £1500 to help develop grassroots sport in Hay-on-Wye.

The challenge was held in aid of Hay Sports, a community group led by Paralympic hero Josie Pearson.

The group fundraises to support the sports clubs that currently use the recreation ground in Hay and to encourage the community to take up sport for their physical and mental wellbeing.

The sports extravaganza took place over 24 hours from 6pm on September to 6pm the following day and showcased 17 different sports that are on offer in an around Hay.

Councillor Gareth Ratcliffe joined in with members of community who took part in the full 24 hours of sports fun.

Trophies and certificates were presented to the participants by Mayor of Hay, Trudy Stedman; Chris Davis MP; councillors James Evans and James Gibson Watt and Josie Pearson.

Organisers hope it will become an annual event.
