OVER 300 people came to St Faith's church in Dorstone for the Celebration of Dorstone Weddings event, over the weekend of September 16-17.

Thirty precious outfits, dating from 1956 to 2018, were displayed all around the church.

It took the small band of artistic volunteers almost two days to set them up, and used every mannequin and dressmaker's dummy for miles around.

Most of the dresses had never been seen in public since the original wedding day.

The church buzzed with conversation as people stayed for a long time, sharing their memories, as they studied over 50 sets of village family wedding photographs - the earliest from 1906.

Golden Valley YFC decorated the porch, and included photos of seven Honour Guards of YFC members, which traditionally greeted YFC brides and grooms as they left the church.

The regular flower arrangers provided arrangements with a wedding theme on the pew ends and the windowsills.

Two large arrangements were given by local professional florists.

A small wedding table was set up, with a cake decorated with a farming scene loaned by a local caterer.

On Sunday there was a special tea, which was followed by an organ concert, with organists Amalie Fisher, Jack Pickford from Holy Trinity and Peter Dyke from Hereford Cathedral, who finished his part of the programme with Widor's 'Toccata', which delighted several brides in the audience as it had accompanied them down the aisle on their wedding day.

The pipe organ was built in 1892, after St Faith's was rebuilt, and it has been played for all the brides who have celebrated their marriages there.

The donations from visitors, which came to over £950, will be used for a special Organ Fund to keep the instrument in peak condition for the brides of the future.
