CITIZENS Advice in Hereford is offering an opportunity for new volunteers to help run an extended service starting next month.

The bureau is set to open for an extra day each week to give people in Hereford and the wider county advice on a variety of issues, while also offering volunteers the chance to make a difference in the community.

Citizens Advice Herefordshire faced an uncertain future but is now running smoothly again thanks to extra cash from the National Lottery Awards and local charities.

The bureau in Owen Street, Hereford, is currently open on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10 am to 3pm for telephone advice and pre-arranged appointments. From October 5, it will also be available during the same hours on Fridays.

Anyone interested in finding out more can attend an information morning at the bureau on October 18 at 10.30am.

Sonya Gregory, operations and training manager, said: “Volunteering with us is challenging, varied and often very rewarding. We’re a local charity, helping people in our community with all sorts of everyday problems by giving free advice and information, face-to-face, over the phone and by email. Our clients tell us that the work we do really does make a difference.

"We provide full training and ongoing support and development, so you don’t need any particular qualifications or experience. We are looking for like-minded volunteers, to help us with this valuable work.

“Whatever your background, whether you want to gain new skills, enhance your CV, meet new people, give something back to your local community or just keep your brain active, this could be the volunteering opportunity for you.”
