AS summer has drawn to a close it's a good time to reflect of the activities of the Roaring Megs Community Choir.

On a beautiful evening in July the choir, basking in the evening sun, entertained an enthusiastic and generous audience at the Ross-on-Wye Rowing Club on the banks of the Wye.

The event was a huge success and as with all of the choir's performances, it supported a local charity.

This event raised money for The Haven, based in Hereford, which supports anyone affected by breast cancer.

Representatives of the choir, director George Banks-Martin and secretary Liz Bloxham were delighted to hand over the cheque for £1600 to Nina Al Temimi from The Haven in the presence of the president of the rowing club Jeremy Picton-Turbevill.

The choir also supported the St Giles Goodrich Flower festival with a one of a kind, artfully arranged display by one its members - with some help from his wife - depicting the Roaring Meg Cannon after which the choir is named.

The cannon, now preserved by the Hereford Council, is on display in Goodrich Castle.

The choir, formed in 2010 is a four-part, non-auditioning group of energetic singers who practice every Monday at the Goodrich Village Hall.

There is always a warm welcome to new members. If you can talk, you can sing!

There is scientific proof that singing improves your mental and physical health.

As winter approaches the choir are preparing for the Annual Christmas Concert.

This year it will be held in St Giles Church Goodrich on Friday, December 7 and the choir will be joined by the talented and enthusiastic pupils of Goodrich Primary School.

The profits from the evening will support marine conservation, a charity that the school are supporting this year.
