JAMIE Molyneux netted in back-to-back games as he helped Westfields to a 1-1 draw against fellow title challengers Coventry Sphinx.

Westfields remain top of the Midlands Premier and after playing 11 league fixtures in the opening seven weeks manager Andy Bevan was relieved of the free week to prepare for a trip to bottom-half Loughborough University on Saturday.

He said: “It’s nice this week to get the boys back on the training pitch as the games have been coming thick and fast which is what they want while the weather is good.

“It was a great performance on Tuesday (against Hereford FC) and it took a lot out of the boys. Coventry were a very good side on Saturday and it was an even match so a draw was a fair result.”

After a goalless first half which the visitors just edged the better of it was Westfields who opened the scoring on the 50th minute with Molyneux cutting inside before rifling home.

Sphinx, who had won five of their opening seven matches, responded 15 minutes later after Keiron Blackburn parried the initial effort Lewis Hudson fired home.

In the last 15 minutes Westfields searched for a late winner and created three good chances with substitute Alex Hainault coming closest but his effort rattled the post.

Bevan’s side also host Stourport Swifts in the league cup on Monday when the manager is keen to keep his team’s winning momentum going.
