HEREFORDSHIRE Council has launched a new app to make it quicker and easier to report potholes from smartphones and tablets.

The first roll out of the app allows users to report potholes, and the council plans to extend this to other reporting services such as fly tipping, public right of way issues and dog fouling over the coming months.

To report a pothole – simply take a picture on your smartphone or tabledevice and upload it directly to the app - the app can automatically pinpoint your location if you are reporting from the problem area.

The picture and report will be sent directly to the highways management team and the local parish council. Residents will then be kept informed of the progress of the reported issue.

The app is available directly from Herefordshire Council's website and it always links to the most up to date version.

The council is keen to get residents' views on how it is working.

Councillor Barry Durkin, cabinet member for transport and regulatory services, said: “We’re delighted to launch our new Reporting App, which will make it easier than ever before to report any highways defects from your mobile phone.

“This will help us manage Herefordshire’s highways more effectively. Just take a picture and upload it directly to the app, which can automatically pinpoint your location if you are at the problem area.

“Your picture and report will be sent directly to our highways management team and subsequently the relevant local parish council. You will also be kept informed of the progress of your report.”

“But this is just the beginning: we plan to extend the app in future to enable you to report other matters, including fly tipping, public right of way issues, and graffiti. This is part of our ongoing commitment to maintaining the beauty of our public spaces.

“This follows on from the continuing success of our Bag It, Bin It campaign, and very soon there will be an accompanying launch of our app that enables people to report dog fouling to our enforcement officers.”
