SINCE Chester FC’s and Wrexham FC’s first meeting in 2013, the two rivals have played 10 times. The Cross-Border Derby has seen Wrexham win four of the clubs’ meetings. Meanwhile, Chester have secured three wins during that time span.

Chester haven’t beaten their cross-border rivals since 2015. Five matches have come and gone since then, and Wrexham have taken three wins. This season will be the first since 2013 that the two rivals will not play each other in the league. Chester were relegated from the National League to the National League North at the end of last term. Wrexham will continue to compete in the National League as the Welsh club attempts to win promotion to the Football League. You can check on bet365 and other websites the odds for each club to finish first of its league!

Wrexham FC

Wrexham finished last season in 10th place and they were just three points away from making  the National League playoffs. Sam Ricketts’ team recorded a +10-goal difference, but it was their goal scoring that did them in. Wrexham scored the fifth fewest goals in the league (49). The Dragons tallied the fewest goals of any side in the top 15. Ricketts’ ability to organise the team and his defence was remarkable. If Wrexham only had goal scorers firing into the back of the net, they may have made the playoffs.

This season’s squad is an exciting one at the Racecourse Ground. Five players have arrived on loan from teams in the Football League. Rekeil Pyke, 20, is one of the most exciting players in the division. The forward is on loan from Premier League team Huddersfield. Jordan Maguire-Drew has been sent to the club from Brighton. The winger is also 20-years old but has experienced loan spells at a variety of football league and non-league clubs. In 2016-17, Maguire-Drew scored 14 goals in 42 games for Dagenham and Redbridge.

Wrexham probably have one of the most beautiful shirt in its history.

Chester FC

Chester’s woeful 2017-18 season saw the club relegated with just 37 points from 138. In the end, Chester were 12 points from safety. The Seals gave up the second most goals in the National League (79), while posting the lowest goals scored record in the division (42). There is hope the club can rebound at first attempt. Joint-managers Anthony Johnson and Bernard Morley have their work cut out for them.

Like Cross-Border Derby rivals Wrexham, Chester boast five loan signings this season. However, the Seals were only able to bring one player in from a Football League club. Fleetwood Town’s Dan Mooney arrived to give the club width. Upon his signing, Mooney was the ninth player the club brought to the Deva Stadium during the offseason. The 19-year-old left sided player is dynamic and will wow Chester supporters this term. Shaun Tuton has a lot of expectations on his shoulders. At one time, he was called the “next Jamie Vardy”. Just three seasons ago, he bagged 10 goals in 27 games for Halifax Town. He aims to get back to his very best with Chester. At just 26, Tuton could reignite his form and be the object of affection for many lower league clubs.

Overall, it must be said that Wrexham’s spot in the National League allows them to attract a higher calibre of players currently. That could all change, however. Chester will have the chance to rebound to the National League. By then, Wrexham could be back in the Football League after securing promotion themselves and they will need to find goals to do it.
