KINGTON local, Allan Lloyd, has embarked on a charity challenge to visit 100 Welsh waterfalls.

To date he has visited 23 waterfalls, the latest being the spectacular and popular Pistyll Rhaeadr near Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant in the area of Llangynog, reported to have the highest drop of any waterfall in Wales.

He is undertaking this year-long challenge to continue to raise awareness and support for St Michael's Hospice, Bartestree.

Allan hopes that upon completion of his challenge (next Spring) that any financial support for the hospice be considered and donations made accordingly.

In the meantime Allan would be pleased to be approached if seen on one of his waterfall walks.

The photograph shows Allan at the base of Aber Falls or Rhaeadr Fawr near Abergwyngregyn in North Wales. He has chosen this waterfall to illustrate his challenge because of his love of local history having taught the subject for rising 40 years at Lady Hawkins' School, Kington.

Abergwyngregyn is the site of the Royal House of the Princes of Gwynedd, and the waterfall is mentioned by the author Sharon Penman in her book Here be Dragons as the romantic meeting place of Llewelyn ap Iorwerth and Joanna.

This month Allan is proposing to visit a number of waterfalls south of the Brecon Beacons.
