COMMUTERS are being encouraged to jump on their bikes to avoid the queues.

Herefordshire Council is promoting its Park and Cycle sites, particularly in Hereford.

The idea is that drivers who are commuting from further afield on the A465, A49 and A438 can find a car park on the edge of Hereford to park up and then cycle into the city.

In Hereford there are eight Park and Cycle sites, which are at Hereford Leisure Centre, Aylestone Park, Northolme Community Centre, Three Elms Trading Estate, Belmont Abbey, Grafton Depot, Rotherwas and Wyevale Garden Centre.

Overall, there are 29 Park and Choose sites around Herefordshire.

Some of them include lockers for you to securely leave your bike overnight in - others near public transport routes include Cycle and Ride racks to secure your bike and continue your journey by bus or train.
