ROSS Rotary Club was delighted to welcome a new member at a its meeting on August 20.

President Philip Dazeley inducted Scott Teasdale into Rotary by outlining the Object of Rotary.

He paraphrased this as being the development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service; the promotion of high ethical standards in business and professions; the application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business and community life; and the advancement of international understanding, goodwill and peace through fellowship.

District governor Joan Goldsmith also attended the meeting and warmly welcomed Scott into Rotary and went on to describe the Four Way Test by which Rotarians measure their actions. Namely, of the things we think, say or do; Is it the truth? Is it fair to all concerned? Will it build goodwill and better friendships? Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

Scott thanked the members of Ross Rotary for their warm welcome and said he would wear his Rotary badge with pride. He added that having recently moved to the area, he was looking forward to making friends, integrating into the local community and being an active participant in the club. He finished by saying that in his view, membership of rotary is about what you contribute and not what you take.

After Scott's induction and congratulations by members, Joan, who only recently took office, introduced herself to members by outlining her personal, professional and rotary background. A member of Nailsworth Rotary Club, Joan described her professional career as ranging from infant school teaching to the Gloucester Probation Service and her talk entertained members with anecdotes from across that range.

Ross Rotary Club meets every Monday evening 6.30pm for 7pm at the Chase Hotel and as a guest or a potential member you'll be made very welcome. Please visit the website at rossrotary.com
