EVERY September, volunteers across England organise 5,000 events to celebrate our fantastic history and culture for Heritage Open Days.

It's a chance to see hidden places and try out new experiences - all of which are free to enjoy, see heritageopendays.org.uk.

And in Bromyard, on Thursday, September 13, toll-keeper Meg will be leading a walk around the Town Heritage Trail, starting at 11am from the Heritage Centre (Tourist Information Office) at the corner of Rowberry Street/Cruxwell Street.

The inexpensive pay-and-display Conquest Theatre carpark on Tenbury Road, HR7 4LL is just five minutes walk away. You should allow one and a quarter hours for this gentle stroll; detailed route instructions for the trail can be found on visitBromyard.org.uk too.

In the afternoon, Meg will be endeavouring to recruit more toll-keepers for the Bromyard Turnpike Trust - everyone will be welcome at The Snugg Coffee House at 17 High St, HR7 4AA for a fun illustrated talk about the history of the highways and the perils you might face - highwaymen, devilish steam-driven carriages and the Sisters of Rebecca, for example.

The talk starts at 2pm, grab a coffee and settle comfortably…

There are no admission charges and no need to book - just turn up on the day with your family and friends. Canine companions are welcome at both events.
